Gornegrat - at the heart of it all
Over 20 gigantic 4000 and more meter-high peaks surround the rocky ridge between the Findelen and Gornergletscher, at 1500 meters above Zermatt. Since over a century a cog railway has made its way here – and still does today, every 24 minutes.
From the 3135 meter-high viewing platform accessible year-round, views extend over the Gorner Glacier to Monte Rosa with its ten snow-capped summits and notorious Matterhorn. Sunsets viewed from the Kulm Hotel on the Gorner ridge are truly remarkable.
World-renowned are views of the mighty Matterhorn mirrored in the lake on a day free of wind. Not to speak of numerous bike and hiking routes in all directions, topped by an alpine path over the glacier that leads to the new SAC Monte-Rosa hut.
Klein Matterhorn - Glacier Paradise
Europe’s highest viewing platform – and no cableway takes visitors higher! Amazing views from a totally different angle in a glacial world of snow and ice.
The highest mountain station in the Alps is reached by gondola rail to Trockenen Steg, followed by an adventurous cable car ride to the Klein Matterhorn station, which has been cut out in the face of rock.
Panorama windows, heaven-bound trip to the summit, glacier palace with sculptures and ice slide, as well as a restaurant with shop and mountain accommodation boasting environmentally friendly Minergie-P energy standards all add to this pinnacle of enjoyment.
Sunnegga / Rothorn - panoramic views
Many say that views of the Matterhorn are best viewed from this spot as they reveal its perfect form...which could well be true. But the mountains to the east of Zermatt are all pretty much perfect vantage points!
The mountain trip commences with the underground funicular to Sunnegga. Close by you discover marmot observation points - and mini funicular rail takes you down to the idyllic Leisee lake.The journey continues with gondola rail to Blauherd and the Wolli-adventure playground. A walk along the marmots theme trail leads back to Sunnegga –and the Seenweg lake path to the valley of the Findel Glacier.
Finally, a large cable car takes visitors to the Unterrothorns summit – from where stunning views comprise many of the 38 four-thousand-meter-high-peaks surrounding Valais.
