Rigi – Queen of mountains

Switzerland’s most visited scenic mountain is discovered in central Switzerland – towering between the three Lucerne Zug and Lauerzersee lakes. And with Swiss Pass & Co you can even travel to the top of Mount Rigi free of charge.
This queen of mountains soon made itself a name as ideal place to indulge in mountainous hikes. Scientists and authors long ascended this mountain upon which a guesthouse was established back in1815. And not long later, in1871, Europe’s first mountain rail made its way to this extraordinary viewing point. Two cog railways – from Vitznau and from Arth-Goldau – travel today to Rigi Kulm and its summit hotel. And from Weggis a cableway travels directly to Rigi-Kaltbad. Stunning sunrises, entertaining evenings and special steamboat rides are enjoyed here in summer – part of which even in winter.
The network of hiking trails ranges from walks along broad paths to five-star Rigi ridge hikes to the Urmiberg by Brunnen – and the new Rigi-Kaltbad mineral baths propose bathing at its best in notorious rock and stone surroundings.

Stanserhorn – the friendliest mountain

Since 1893 open wooden carriages slowly make their way in leisurely manner from Stans direction Stanserhorn – terminating at the mid station after which you board the CabriO and a new generation in transport.
Previously three funicular rail sections led steeply up to the summit, whereas today the cable car with open top deck is one of the main attractions – now you can marvel at the sights with wind in your hair and no ropes above your head – as these are placed on the side of the carriage.
You often find a ranger on the round summit path – and these are delighted to give you information on many aspects of this Alpine world. Half way you also spot marmots – as well as the fascinating "Rondorama" revolving summit restaurant – and if you’re up here on Friday or Saturday you can enjoy a candlelight dinner as well!
